Going back over the photo's I remembered that I'd forgotten to include this bit, apologies about the 'part 10.5' but it fits between the part 10 and 11.
I'd like the edge of the watch-glass shelf to have some curvature so that it doesn't just end abruptly with a square edge. I'm going to use the lathe and some cnc to cut the curve.
Once the lathe is set up I can cut the circular profile into the shelf, there's not much material to take off, it's really just about knocking off the corners and replacing with some lovely curves!
Here's the view I've got of the controls software, using Linuxcnc, showing the tool paths.
The red lines show the tool paths that have already been traversed whereas the white are the ones yet to follow. I may stop the routine earlier than the programme's end if the cut is finished.

it's quite hard to see from this photograph, but the edge has been taken off the inside rim of the watch-glass shelf.
What is apparent, again, from this photo is how the screw hole has gone through into the top of the watch-glass shelf.
